Imac and VR

I am currently using a (late 2012) 27" Imac and it is still working well. I am using an external thunderbolt boot drive. I am interested in VR, but not sure that the new Imacs, whenever they come out, are going to be able to handle it. I expect will still need to get an egpu to run VR.

Just curious to get people's thoughts if the new Imacs will need a egpu to do VR.

Today's iMac support VR data creation and editing with a 27-inch Radeon Pro 580 recommended per Apple. So, no external GPU is needed, but does require a GPU bump and the 27-inch iMac. If you cannot purchase that, eGPU might be your only route.

I would suspect, that if a GPU bump happens with a rumored iMac bump, that will continue to be the case. It might also come to the stock GPU, but total speculation.

Thanks- I am looking at this from a VR gaming POV, and have read that the Radeon Pro 580 is at the bottom of acceptable graphics cards for use in VR, similar to a 1050ti. Given that, I would have to imagine the new generation of Imacs should have AMD cards that are at least a couple of notches higher in terms of power. NOt expecting a Vega, but at least better than the 580.
