Is there a device that makes this possible? I looked at the eyeTV and it's not useful as I need component or HDMI to hook up my cable box. Thanx for any help!

Nope, no way to hook up an HD cable box to an iMac, unfortunately. iMac doesn't support the cable box's DTCP encryption and there is no way to get DVI/HDMI video into the iMac anyway.

I sure do wish Elgato would figure out a way to make a Cable-Card compatible box for Mac. Aren't there already such products on the PC side?

Well, your iMac kinda already is a hdtv. if you treat yourself to Quicktime pro, any HD video you download to you iMac will play full
screen on it! :p

What about component inputs?
I am not aware of any such devices to capture HD component video. They do exist for the Power Mac / Mac Pro, but they are specialized PCI cards and they cost a fortune and are used for pro video capture, not casual TV watching with a friendly viewer interface etc.
