Hey guys just got a 27" imac today, the newest model. I also have a 2011 MBP thunderbolt.

Wanted to know if i can use the imac as a screen for the macbook for portability reasons with work.

The Apple store guy said no but their product knowledge is weak.

Thanks guys!

I'm not sure on the exact question but I do wonder why? I mean, the iMac will be more powerful as a main computer so why just use it as a screen? It would be better if you want portability and power to use something like airdrop, network sharing or dropbox to share files between the two. That way you get the portability you need and the power you can get out of an iMac.

I mean I may be missing a reason somehow, it just doesn't make sense to me to have a shiny, new, powerful 27" iMac that only gets used as a screen. If you wanted that, why didn't you just buy a cinema display?
