iMac --> Boot Camp --> external monitor

I'm a new and happy convert to Macs. I have a MacBook Air which I love, but my work software is web based and only runs through Internet Explorer, so I have to install Windows via Boot Camp to use it for work-related stuff. I want to get a new iMac for my office and I would like to hook my 28" monitor to it. If I install Windows Vista through Boot Camp, then plug my external monitor into the iMac via a miniDVI to VGA adapter, can I create an extended desktop across both monitors? And if so, will this extended desktop also work in Mac OS?

Welcome . Yes, that should work. Both Windows Vista & Mac OS X support extended desktops.
