Mom's 2009 iMac recently started running super slow, spinning wheel all over the place, then today it's got a new trick. It'll turn on, the progress bar will fill slowly, then when it gets to the end it just powers off.
No external drives attached.
Reset SMC and PRAM/NVRAM/WHATEVER and didn't help.
Tried booting in safe mode, same thing.
Tried checking the boot SSD with single user mode and it said the drive was fine.
Tried checking the SSD in recovery mode with Disk Utility. Said there were errors that may prevent boot but otherwise fine.
No matter what part of the system I'm using, it just crawls. It's so slow.
Apple Hardware Test won't even launch. I've tried holding down D and Option+D at startup and it still boots normally.
Any other tests I can run? I've been googling this for a while now but gotten nowhere.
