Imac can not find external hard drive

After the latest Leopard update, my imac can not find one of the external hard drives attached to it via usb. I have check all the usb ports with other devices with no problems. I checked the external hard drive on another computer and had no problems reading it. Any suggestions?

If you open Disk Utility with the drive attached, do you see it in the pane on the left (either the physical drive, or both that and the volume indented below)? If so, you can try selecting the drive and clicking repair, to see if that does anything useful. If it doesn't mount after that and you can see the volume name, try selecting that and clicking the "mount" button in the toolbar at top.

Post what you get from doing that.

I would try:

1. Turn off the hard drive, then disconnect and reconnect its USB cable
2. Turn on the drive, and see if it is now recognized

If not:

1. Repeat 1 above
2. Restart iMac
3. Repeat 2 above

If this doesn't work, you may have some sort of drive problem.

When you installed the recent Leopard update, was the disk drive off and
unplugged? Used to be a problem if it wasn't - don't know recently.

Also, what kind of iMac do you have? G5, C2D, how much RAM, HD, etc.?
