iMac charge iPad whilst asleep

i'm looking at getting a desktop stand for my ipad 4 to go next to me pc.

Can the imac charge the ipad whilst the imac is in sleep mode?

I've read a few places that as long as its plugged in before you enter sleep it will work and other places have said it will not.

Just after a simple yes or no from someone who has done it?

Yes, it will charge in sleep mode.

Hmmm. I was wondering the same thing. But read somewhere that it won't charge as quickly or give the right charge as the supplied ipad plug that comes with the ipad!!

Then given the year it will detect the iPads extra draw on the USB port and up the amps. It'll charge just fine screen on or off.

So basically reading into that article. When plugging your standard ipad cable into a USB 3 socket on back of new imac. It ups the charge for the ipad to the correct voltage!!?!

So. In other words. If I leave a cable connected. I can charge either my ipad or iPhone and it will charge either at correct rate!!?!

The voltage stays at 5v it increases the amperage to meet the draw on the port. Yes it'll detect the iPad/iphone correctly

So the ipad will charge just as quickly as if I am using the charging plug via the mains!!?!

The reason I'm asking is because I have my mac in my spare bedroom and all my plug sockets are in use. So would like to keep all my apple items together on my desk instead of having to say charge my ipad in another room!!

this is what ive just done.

Left it plugged into my imac last night and full charged this morning 6 hours later from 5% battery.
