This morning my imac refused to reboot past grey screen, but now has restarted, what do I need to check to find what went wrong ?

seems to be working fine now apart from on restart it had to repair iPhoto library and spotlight indexed the iMac.
Should I keep my appointment at the Apple store ?

You could try looking at the Console Logs to see if it listed any failure reports for the time you had a failure to boot. Console is in your Utilities Folder.

And there you have, has just crashed to a blue screen like it did this morning don't know what it means but its not good, wish I hadn't delayed appointment till Wednesday, now screen went black and have a lot of vertical green lines on screen.

----------

Then it started up okay for a few minutes flashed to lots of green lines again, cleared so I can view my desktop but can't click or move anything :(

----------

I can now move my mouse pointer around bot can not click on anything, does this sound like a video card issue ?

Managed to get imac to do a apple hardware test, just for something to do, as taking it in tomorrow.

----------

Well that test came up with no hardware problems

Pretty pleased that I found out I can access my imac hardrive from my daughters macpro using thunderbolt and save some stuff tat I hadn't backed up.

So should I have tried the recovery option ?
Too late now as imac in box and appointment at 1 pm, be interesting to see what problem is this time.

Imac gone for another graphics card change :(

Just to add the Apple Harware Test didn't pick up the fault

Thought I would have it back by now, but they still haven't received the replacement graphics card at the apple store yet:(
