To make a very long story short and still detailed... power failure, possible brown out, brand new battery backup kicked in fine but iMac made nasty buzzing sound from inside (not speakers), iMac wouldn't shut down (hung on last screen for several minutes), held power button to shut off. When power came back, turned on iMac and it crashed, said I need to to turn it off and back on again, so I did. It started up fine, but multiple files in my documents folder are now empty. The file names are there, even a preview of the images shows up, but the files themselves are empty.
What could have done this?? the files are in different folders and some files are fine. Is there any way to recover these files? Is this something Apple can assist me with (< 2 mo old)? I'm a software developer, but relatively new to Mac OSX / unix.
I know I should have backed them up if they were important.. but it's a brand new iMac and I don't have an external drive yet and I didn't enable time machine because my mac only has one hdd... I know.
Please help. Thanks!!
