I have an intel based iMac from late 2007. Whenever I turn on my iMac, a little window pops up asking me if I want to update my keychain. I always say yes and it asked me to enter my old password. Well that password is blank since I brought my iMac to the Apple store about 2 weeks ago to get a new HD for it. So now when I click update keychain, it brings me to my desktop where the dock always resets. I've taken out apps and added apps, but its always the stock apps when I turn on my iMac. I don't know if these 2 issues go hand in hand, but any insight or help to fix it would be tremendous. Thanks a lot.

Try repairing your keychain. Open the keychain app. Go To "Keychain Access -> Keychain First Aid" to repair your Keychain. See if this fixes the issue.
