I've always noticed that the glossy iMac and MBP displays have been more saturated and contrasty than my old matte 20" Cinema Display, old white macbook, and even new MBAs. I color graded a film on a Mac Pro/matte Cinema Display, watched it on a new iMac, and I was surprised how dark, and overly crushed the blacks looked. Shadow details that were fully visible on the old matte Cinema Display, or New MBA, were completely crushed in the imac display.
I tried calibrating the display, made sure the display's brightness was up, but it was still the same. What is the difference between two types of displays that causes contrast levels to look so different?
