iMac display was updated so why not Thunderbolt displays?

Don't you find it odd that the iMac displays are now nice and thin but the 27" displays are still ol' school? Surely they've got to be coming out soon maybe for Christmas? But wouldn't this be a major announcement or would it be one of those random unannounced releases they sometimes do?
 
They originally had production problems with the iMac, otherwise I think they would have upgraded a while ago, but I think they also were waiting for TB2, as this is not a big seller for Apple. The common theory here is that the new TBD will come out with the MacPro, which Apple has said it will be in December. I expect new Minis and non-retina MBPs to be released at the same time, so I believe it will happen early to capitalize on Christmas sales.
