I am writing a DVD using Toast and it will only write at 3x speed. Is that normal? It seems really slow. How can I make it faster?

I have a Aluminum iMac 2.4 c2duo with 3GB of RAM. Is it possible that this is as fast as it can write??

How long does it take to write 4.38 GB to a 4.7 GB DVD -/+ R with maximum speed settings?

The SuperDrive has a maximum speed of 8x, which it only reaches on the inner circles of a dvd,

I think it will take 8-10 minutes to fully write to a 4.7 GB DVD.

That's an iMac, not a laptop.
Correct!

I was reading somwhere that Toast version 8.01 has this problem. I was unable to determine if there is a fix for it. It seems strange that this 8x burner only spins at 3x. There must bea better way.

Sometimes Toast shows me the same (3x speed or maybe 4x).

Could you please tell us how long does it take to burn 4.38GB to a DVD (4.7GB)?

Without Verification of course.

That way we can compare and see if Toast is just effing with you.

And btw, the superdrive in the iMac is a laptop DVD burner, as it can fit better into the tight enclosure and has only 8x speed. The Mac Pro has a desktop DVD burner and burns with up to 16x speed.
