i need a desktop mac to run garage band to record music. I currently have a G3 466MHz iBook clamshell that im selling on ebay. i was looking at the apple refurbs and they have a 17" 1.6GHz G5 iMac w/ 40GB HD and 256MB RAM for $799 shipped, only problem is it has no optical drive. I do have an external FW400 CD-RW drive, and i could get a Superdrive to put in it, does anyone have any comments, expriences or reccomendations about these? Is the 32MB GPU going to hold me back at all for light Photoshop editing and/or garage band? keep in mind that i will upgrade RAM and eventually the HD as well, thanks a lot
EDIT: i could get a superdrive to put in the external enclosure (its a LaCie), the education mac has no hole in the side of the cast to put an optical drive.
