Since I've upgraded to ML, I've noticed that the fans on my late 2009 27" iMac do not slow down after they have sped up under heavy CPU/GPU load. If I wake computer from sleep the fans are in the 940 rpm range. Then I'll load up a graphics intensive game running full screen and the fans will run at the 2600-2700 rpm range. This is pretty normal I suppose. However, once I quit the game with no other application open and no noticeable load on the CPU other than sitting there on the desktop, the fans just stay at this high rate. This is even after letting the computer sit there for a couple of hours. Waste of energy I would say.

If I put the computer to sleep and immediately wake it, the fans are back to where one would expect them. Around the 940 range.

I have reset the SMC to no effect. This was an upgrade install from Lion where I didn't have this problem/issue. Anybody else noticing this type of behavior? I'm going to call Apple Care being thet the computer has 4 months warranty left on it.
