Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a mac for Avid and After Effects. I will use it for a purely digital workflow (dslr) and will be moving projects between After Effects and Avid routinely everyday.

I don't think a Mac Pro is necessary because I will not be having to break out a broadcast signal for color correction or need any tape based workflow/inputs.

I'm looking to purchase the i7 21.5 imac and upgrade the ram to 16gb's via OWC. The ram is mainly for After Effects CS5.5 but will also be using the 64-Bit Avid 6 as well as Pro Tools 9. Pretty much just looking for a confirmation that this is the proper system on a budget.

bump.

Also, how big a performance difference is there between the 6770m 512 and the 6970m 1gig.

Depends on what you need the video card for.
3Dmark11:
6770: 26 fps
6970: 38.21 fps
GTX580: 54.36 fps

Get at least 1GB for AE and later down the road. It can help when OpenCL finally gets rolling.
