I'm planning to purchase a new retina 5k iMac to use for high definition video chat for work. I'll have access to gigabit internet speeds so that won't be an issue. Just wondering if I should spend $200 to double the RAM and/or $250 to bump the GPU with more RAM to ensure everything runs smoothly. Is that a) total overkill and not needed, b) would be nice to ensure smooth video and future proof or c) absolutely you'll want that for your needs?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Brent

Spend it on the GPU and make sure you have at least a Fusion Drive.

But honestly, even the stock high-end 5K (3.5GHz i5 with 1TB Fusion Drive and M290X) will do you fine.
