At random times my iMac "forgets" my e-mail password and submits a blank which is rejected by the remote server. I then re-enter the password and all is fine until it forgets again. Resetting the keychain access does not help. Apple help cannot solve this issue, can you?

Are you using and third party plug-ins on your mail client? I know when I was using the MSN/hotmail plugin I would constantly have to enter my password. Once I removed it the problem went away. Just a thought.

e-mail

My accounts are msn.com and q.com, I am not aware that I use plug-ins though. What is an example?

LPZ Keychain access

It is a utility under "Applications" that the Machelp agent guided me to.

I don't know specifically what it does but it seems to remember Internet Passwords - apart from my e-mail ones!

Yes, I know what Keychain Access is. What, specifically, did you use it to do? What did you do to "reset the keychain access?"

I'm asking because what I'd probably do is quit Mail, open Keychain Access,
click on login and passwords, and then delete any keys related to this mail server. I'd then quit Keychain Access and restart Mail, and resupply the passwords as requested (and check the box so that each resupplied password is saved in my keychain).

That procedure is EXACTLY how to do it.....

Yes, I know.

I'm trying to determine if that's what the OP did/meant!

But thanks for confirming the suggestion.

Did you install this plugin before? httpmail:

Also, try this. Create a google account and set it up within the email. Remove your msn account and see if it does the same thing. Once I deleted the account from within mail I no longer get the password error again. Just a suggestion.
