Started playing bf4 and getting 70-80 fps on ultra 2560 x 1440 res . I overclocked the gpu that gave me at least 10 fps. Now i want to know is it possible to overclock the cpu. I tried different software none work. Im running windows 8 through bootcamp. I know mac doesnt use BIOS. but is there an alternative? Im new to mac rumors i hope this isnt the wrong section. :D

Out of curiosity... how do you overclock the GPU on an iMac? I'm assuming this is done under Windows and cannot be done under OS X, right?

Out of curiosity... are you monitoring your gpu temperature? under full load, it gets really hot and the fans are barely enough to keep things cool. You're not trying to fry your iMac for a couple of fps, are you ?

My 2c ...

Yes i monitor temp. 2 hours of gameplay and it doesnt go over 80c
And idle at 40-50c.

MIKECHICAGO- yes its through windows.

That much fps at 2560x1440, I would assume it's either GTX 680MX or 780M, depending on which 27" iMac he has.

...and which software do you use?

I used msi afterburner.

@xeleon
Nvidia gtx 780m 32gb 1600mhz ram
Quad core i7 3.5 turbo boost 3.9
3tb fusion drive. Getting a 500gb ssd though the fusion drive isnt really what i expected

How many MHz did you over clock the GPU? And how stable is it?
Also, without the over clock, how many FPS are you getting? Is that with Ultra on all and AA on?

Sorry for the questions, but I was just going to post a thread about this, but now we have one going. Perfect!

I'm sorry, but you're not getting a constant 70-80fps at 2560x1440 on ultra settings. Not even close.

Core- +275
Memory- +600
Its really stable no problems at all.
Just don't overclock the memory over 700. It gets pretty hot that way.
Before overclock on ultra with and aa on i was getting 55-65 now im getting 70-80 abd thats online multiplayer gameplay. Get even higher sometimes in campaign.

Is this thread some kind of trolling or what?
I'll just leave these pictures here as the reference to nonsense OP is talking.

And just to make sure you'll get it right, 780m < 770

Wow that's pretty crazy. Maybe the OP just thinks he's getting good FPS or something.

Edit: In CoD Ghosts with everything pretty much maxed out at 1440p, I'm getting 70-80 average, but that's to be expected.

maybe OP mistake the High settings with ULTRA

----------

because on High settings with view distance 70 I'm gettings same fps 70-72 on 1440p

Maybe OP is running Ultra settings w/ tweaking -- I.E., no AA, etc.

As high as 80 seems quite unlikely, though.

You know it's difficult to get a drive into your iMac, yeah? It's not simple to replace them. Just fyi.
