iMac Freezes on startup...

I would almost be willing to say, backup the drive now.
If the machine freezes every now and then at other times, aka clock stops, it would almost sound like the drive is dying.
Since the dying drives tend to freeze on cold boot, and during heavy use. And work fine during reboots.
