iMac freezes upon Catalina update

So my iMac went thru the update for the newest Catalina. It all goes well until the progress bar gets to 100% and then the Mac just hangs and wont open. I have tried most things I have found on internet with no luck. Shutting down and re booting and it does the same thing, progress bar to 100% but Mac will not open. I unplugged all peripherals and that didnt help either. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix, this is day 4 and its very annoying as that is the machine that I stream all music and movies from. PLEASE HELP. lol

can you get into the recovery partition at least?
CMD-R at boot...
