Hi everybody, I'm Simone and I write from Venice, Italy. My collection of PowerPC Macs is composed by a PB G4 12", an iMac G3 333 and a Power Macintosh 6500/250.

I have a question for the iMac. If I access Open Firmware it says "Apple iMac Open Firmware 3.0.f10 built on 03/05/99 at 21:14PM", the OS is OS 8.6 and I can't manage to upgrade the firmware (I want to use this machine with iTunes and Quicktime for some music and films)

Can I do something about OS X install?

Thank you for the help and sorry for my bad english ;)

Hello Simone, I've haven't done this myself but here is the download and instructions for the firmware 1.2 update:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1263?locale=en_GB

Read it very carefully before and back up before trying.
Hope it helps.

Thank you for the answer, but there is an error like "can't find the app that created the file".

I was given a dmg of a OS 9.1, restored it on a second hard drive, and always the same error

If you downloaded the update on a PC that might cause the error - I have the same problem sometimes with files between OS X and OS 9. Is your iMac connected to the internet? That would be the most reliable way to download the update directly.
