iMac G3 Upgrade

Hey guys, I make no arguments to the fact I'm a sucker for Apple hardware, especially so with G3 era stuff. That said, I've been offered a G3 iMac for $80 CAD. This one differs from my sig in that it has 600mhz and is graphite.

Think it's worth buying? Comes with original keyboard and mouse too! Does anyone know of any problems with this model?

I have a 500MHz Graphite G3. It's a good machine, but struggles with modern applications and complex web pages. You shouldn't run anything beyond MacOS X 10.3 on it

CAD$80 (£45) sounds a bit expensive.

I have a 400MHz G3 Blueberry iMac with a 60GB HDD and 1GB ram running 10.4.11 it runs great for what it is. It lives in my kitchen looking up web pages (recipies from BBC.co.uk/food usually) and streaming iTunes from the iMac in my sig whilst I'm Cooking. The Mrs also uses it to track Her Weight watchers stuff online.

Try running tiger, and fully update the OS its way faster

I think you should buy it. The price is good for CDN. I also live in canada and am looking to get an older mac, so im familiar with the prices. Also, use 10.4.11, and it will run good. I have a powermac g4 with 400mhz cpu, and 1gb ram, and it runs on tiger without any problems (and its also pretty fast considering the specs).

I see those models practically being given away here locally on craigslist.com since nobody really wants to buy them and they are so cheap. Don't know how $CA compares to the $US but I wouldn't pay more than $40US for it.

I have a G3 400mhz graphite iMac w/1G RAM and 80G hard drive running the latest Tiger software. It more than meets my needs except that it is a little slow streaming video and gets choppy viewing YouTube videos. About a year ago I paid $90 to have the hard drive replaced, which I think that was a good investment. I think it is worth $80 for the 600mhz model, especially if it already has a RAM upgrade and you plan on keeping it for awhile (perhaps as a second computer on a network).
