I bought an old 266mhz G3 imac and used sonnet upgrade (600 mhz/firewire) for a temporary replacement machine that I'm giving to a friend when I'm done in a few weeks. I had a local Apple tech install the sonnet plus new 7200rpm 40 gig hd and 384 ram with 9.1 and 10.2 on partitioned drives.

It opened on 9.1 OS. Iit worked very fast but I'm so used to os X that I switched it over to Jaguar for start up. Trouble is that it would not allow me to launch anything -- system preferences, anything. Then I put an old iMac disc (8.6 software restore) in the cd drive and it seemed to calm down, but I'm wary now.

I'm wondering if the Apple Techs forgot to upgrade the firmware or what the issue is. The Sonnet site said to go for the 9.1 and 10.2 only -- machine freaked entirely on Panther with the CPU upgrade -- I just want it to work. Any suggestions or ideas?
