I’ve had this Bondi a couple months. I’ve used it before and have even had it running for hours at a time.
Tonight I finally got around to taking it apart, cleaning it up, upgrade the RAM and replace the 4GB HDD…
After putting it back together I had it on for probably 10-15 minutes or so and it started making this horrendous sound. It sounds like something got caught in the fan but I feel like it’s too loud for that. I don’t even think this video does it justice. it is extremely loud.
I’ll probably open it up and turn it on to see if I can verify that but I thought I’d post about it. I’ve never had a computer sound like it’s about to throw a rod…
Update:
I opened it, plugged the logicboard in and powered it up and the fan seemed fine; no strange noises to be heard. I did notice that the small ribbon cable that is normally taped over the PRAM battery seemed like it was sticking up a bit (I removed the PRAM battery earlier; it was from 1998 yikes) I taped down the ribbon cable with electrical tape on the chance it was hitting the fan.
Put the iMac back together and so far so good.
I’ll update this post accordingly if it comes back.
