Okay, I've got an iMac DV (Graphite, G3) that I'm currently backing up using Target Disk mode onto my much shinier new intel mac. Basically the DV needs a reinstall of Tiger.

However, the slot drive died a little while back and it can't be used. I'm not really sure how I'd run the install off my intel iMac and use the iMac DV as a target Firewire disk. I've tried in the past and it won't boot off of the USB-CD drive either. :(

So currently the situation is in summary:
iMac G3 - Dead Drive, Won't boot from USB CD Drive, running in Firewire Target disk
intel iMac - Probably the way I'll attempt to reinstall it.

Any ideas? :/

I just had a silly idea that might work.

If I go grab an emulator like PearPC for my Intel Mac and create a disk image of the OSX install...can't I just then use disk utility to restore the PPC iMac's Hard Drive from the image?

Edit: Okay, here's my stupidly convoluted method. :p

1) Backup the Drive
2) Partition the drives approximately 50/50 (So, a 20gb and a 10)
3) Restore the image of the drive back onto the 20gb
4) Reboot the PPC iMac into OSX
5) Use a method similar to the one documented here to force Tiger to install onto the second empty partition
6) Use the Intel Mac to create an image of the Tiger Partition
7) De-partition the drive
8) Restore the Tiger partition to the now single drive.

Whew.
