Hey Folks--

Wondered if y'all might throw in your opinions and $0.02 about some bad behavior I'm getting out of the LCD panel on a 20" iMac G4. Basically, it seems like the "opposite" of an inverter failure:

  • Rather than the picture being there w/ no backlighting, there's backlighting present w/ no picture.
  • Video out works just fine.
  • I replaced the inverter anyway, and it made no difference.
  • I have jiggered the TMDS connector on both ends, and do not see any changes when I do so.

Any thoughts? Does this sounds like a cable problem or the panel itself? Unfortunately, I do not have another similar machine to test with.

Thanks for any tips!
Fred

any luck?

Hi there,

I wonder if you had any luck?
I do have the same problem.
Just bought an Imac g4 20".
because it's a fine looking machine.

if you did not have any success:
there's a guy on the internet who
has made quite a few mods on the Imac G4
e.g. he replaced the original screen with
a standard 20" lcd screen and attached it to
the neck.
