Hello, I joined looking around here under unfortunate circumstances. My iMac G4s screen recently started displaying garbled lines, colors and artifacts out of the blue. It worked well for a few weeks after I purchased it but during a game of Bejeweled today the screen suddenly went completely haywire and reboots are not fixing it. I can’t find any threads with a similar issue to mine. I think the integrated Nvidia GPU got toasted? Can this Mac be saved or is it a goner?

I’ve just found out my problem. Upon disassembling and testing my iMac I discovered this isn’t an issue the GPU at all but a failure of the TMDS cable. I am getting a blank white screen with the cable disconnected and garbled screen while connected. The cable appears to be kinked as pushing down on it just slightly with the iMac turned and the cable connected shows the normal appearance while not pushing down or pushing too hard brings back the screen issues. Ill have to settle for a mini VGA adapter and external monitor for now until I can come up with a proper solution.
