I recently got an iMac G4 (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac_700_fp.html) and I am attempting to upgrade the memory. The specs show that it takes 1 512 mb PC 133 SDRAM SODIMM and 1 512 mb PC 133 SDRAM DIMM. The computer originally came with 256 mb (2x128). I upgraded the SODIMM to 512 mb - no problem. However, I have gone through 2 RAM sticks (http://www.amazon.com/512MB-SDRAM-1...7MY0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302143645&sr=8-1) and (http://www.amazon.com/Generic-512-M...8IKV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302143669&sr=8-2), but they WILL NOT POST or show up in "About my Mac" or the system profiler. I am really confused as to what's going on because it recognizes the original 128 mb DIMM no problem. Is the RAM I am using incompatible? It doesn't seem to be as it's PC133 SDRAM DIMMs. Looking for any other iMac G4 owners who have some advice...

Golden rule: do not buy no name RAM. Most of it won't work.
Well known brands like Crucial/Micron, Corsair, Kingston, Hynix, Samsung, Infineon etc. will work. RAM must be low density (ask seller before buying in case of any doubts).

Yea, I figured I was going to get burned with cheap RAM, but had to try just in case it worked. Thanks! I'll order the WINTEC RAM and it should work.
