iMac g4 OSX10.3.7 unusual slow startup

I have a iMac G4 with all the new updates. It has been running perfectly
until just yesterday the startup seemed to freeze at the blue screen.
It took a minutes longer than normal to get to the user screen.
It has never done this, now it seems to be the standard.

I have done nothing other than download the new updates, and that
was a few days earlier (with no problems for many startups).

What's going on?
