Imac G4 showing only 256 MB of RAM it actually has 768 MB of RAM

It had 512 MB of RAm before . I had upgraded and added 256 MB of Laptop ram which make it 768 MB . But just recently when I booted it .It shows it has 256 MB of ram .

I think the bigger ram is not working (or problem with ram slot..?)

What do you suggest ..?

Have you tried reseating the RAM? a PRAM reset?

Re seating the RAM is pretty self explanatory.
PRAM reset just hold command + option + P + R after the machine turns on, until you hear the chime a second time. You can Google for more detail.
