Hello,

I’ve recently fired up my lovely iMac G4 (15”, 1Ghz) after a few years in storage, and one thing I’ve noticed is that on the highest volumes - which includes the Apple chime on start-up - there is crackling. Which leads me to believe the internal speakers are dying.

Does anyone know where I might be able to source replacement speakers? Also interested in any tips for other upgrades I should do while I’m in there - it’s already got an SSD and 2GB of RAM, but I am thinking a new internal fan maybe? Pretty sure I already changed the PRAM battery.

Thanks a lot!

I haven’t bought from these folks but they have iMac g4 internal speakers for $10 each.

In a pinch, I have also repaired laptop speakers with flexible adhesive for rubber. Granted if you have to buy the glue ($7-10), you’re close to the price of the replacement speaker anyways.

I have a set of Apple pro speakers with the short lead & white speaker surround that came with iMac g4s. They sound great and could be a nice upgrade for your Mac too. Looks like on eBay they’re going for around $40 and up.

Like these.

Thanks, after a bit of research I ended up ordering these from AliExpress, which look like they should be compatible - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...der_detail.order_detail_item.4.1041f19cdbe8sG

I’m in the UK, and I find a very reputable supplier called The Bookyard that sold replacement speakers for about £15. But I imagine those are still 23 years old so I preferred to buy brand new ones. Worst case scenario is they don’t work and I’ll only be £5 out of pocket! Will feed back if they work.
