imac G4 superdrive can't play or import music CDs

I recently lent some CDs of a friend of mine to put in my itunes.
All the CDs are originals so why when i put them in my drive nothing happpens.All i can hear is that clunk clunk sound which means that its not reading the CDs.
My mac is about a year and a half old so the drive should be ok.
I haven't burn't that many CDs but i have imported loads which wasn't a problem before.
Any ideas anyone.
