Hey everyone - I thought I'd be gone by now (after dropping by), but I'm still dealing with my iMac G5
.
So I put the SSD into the G5 and installed Leopard just fine; it's running nicely. However, the HDD fan still runs at 1400 RPM, which is too fast for an SSD that claims to be only 80F (which, even then, seems hotter than it would be).
Can someone tell me which fan kexts pertain to the HDD fan and the code necessary/recommended settings? I'd like to bring this noisy fan down! I'm actually not aware of the iMac G5 iSight model's base RPMs, but something tells me that 1400 is still higher than normal. Anyone here know what the RPMs are supposed to be at idle?
Otherwise, the machine is running just fine. It was a daunting task taking apart this *virgin Mac, but it paid off. To anyone else with iMac G5s, blowing air through the vents isn't enough... I found that the entire inside was completely caked with dust, after opening the entire thing up.
Thanks,
MDD
P.S. I'll make sure to let you all know when I actually do leave.
*An all-in-one or laptop Mac (or other accessory requiring disassembly) that hasn't been opened before. (At least, that's my term for it.)
