Hey.

I have agreed to look at my friends iMac G5.

First problem was

Blank screen - Nothing showing up, but when we shined a flashlight onto the screen we could see the desktop.
=
Backlight Inverter replaced.
Still no joy
=
Continuous ON and OFF using PRAM reset for hours, then it came on worked fine.

Next day we turned it back on - same problem.

NOTES
The chimes never appear to sound.
The flashing white light doesnt always come on.
The computer doesnt make a noise as if it were on.

Please respond ASAP.
Thanks.

I'm going to guess the logic board is going. It's the usual culprit when everything starts acting up, since... well, the logic board controls everything!

That's strange about the backlight, though. I wouldn't associate that with logic board issues...

The iMac G5 did have some notorious P/S problems. Perhaps having that tested would be the best thing to do before trying to swap out other hardware.

TEG

Open it up and do a visual inspection of the logic board . . . particularly, checking for deformities of the capacitors.

To inspect the power supply, you're going to need torx bits that have the tamper dimple, again to check the caps on the p/s board.
