can any one tell me what that ment to mean please

unable to find driver for this platform: "powermac8,1'.

This makes me think that the tiger disc that you have is not new enough to support the G5 that you are attempting to install it on.

Try obtaining a copy of OS 10.5 Leopard.

so powerMac 8.1 indicates me that you got either a
iMac g5 17" 1.6ghz or 1.8ghz or a 20" 1.8 ghz
and all of those shipped originally with Panther 10.3 only the ambient light and later isight models shipped with Tiger
so installing a RETAIL version of TIGER should be no problem at all on your iMac
do not use the grey disc's as those are model specific disc's and wont work on your iMac

but if you happen to have a RETAIL version of tiger and still cant install it sometimes helps to reset Pram before installing
so shutdown your iMac
push the power button.
Immediately !!!!!!!!!!!!after pressing the power button
press and hold the OPTION, APPLE, P and R keys until you hear 3 times the startup chime , then hands off the keyboard
the iMac will now start normally
insert the RETAIL tiger disc
now just restart the iMac (turn off and on again )
when the screen goes black hold down the option key
and select the retail disc on the blue screen that appears (can take a while first you usually see the HDD and then the disc )
then follow the install process
sorted your iMac should now startup with tiger installed :)

if you dont have a retail tiger disc and need to buy one you should consider buying LEOPARD 10.5 !
but again a retail disc, grey discs are always model specific (thats why they are so cheap)

make sure you got at least 512mb ram for leopard , minimum requirement , but better upgrade ,your iMac takes 2 GB ram and will be running a lot better with more ram
