I am going to do something that the "geniuses" at the Mac Store forbid me to to do and buy my own additional memory and install it myself.

I suppose my question is multi-layered, so I will just ask.

1. Is the memory that mac sells a brand owned by them or do they sell something like Corsair or Kingston and then upcharge it to smithereens after it gets their certification?

2. If it is an independent brand, where is a good place online to buy the memory myself? I am sure you guys and ladies on here know of some good deals online from reliable sellers!

3. Is it really that difficult? I have looked at the instruction booklet and watch friends do it plenty enough, that I can't imagine paying someone to do this for me

My Mac is an iMac g5 with built-in isight
2.1 GHz PowerPC with a mere 512 MB pushing it at the moment.

I want to up it to 2 GB, and i only have 1 slot in the bottom to do it.

Any help/opinions/advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jules

Hi,

Well my new intel imac came with Hynix memory that apple put in it. Thats cheap crap memory. So its mega money from apple for rubbish quality. Just put 4gb of corsair ram in and it flies.

I think apple just load the profit on upgrades.
