HI Everyone

Hopefully someone can help:confused:

I have a 17" Imac G5 (pre isight) and my harddrive died.
I have just bought a new hd and replaced the old one but when trying to reinstall os 10.4 from the dvd holding down C on startup the disk drive makes some noise and spits out the dvd.

All i am left with the dreaded broken ? folder.

Any suggestions.....thanks in advance

just tried the option key, spat the disk out again and again.
No boot screen came up just a blue screen with two buttons on it:
left button has a clockwise arrow on it and right button has a righthand arrow on it. When clicked on these do nothing.

Also my fan starts spinning really loudly

What you've loaded is the Mac's boot manager. While the Mac is in this mode, the fans will spin at maximum because the fan control software isn't loaded. The clockwise arrow is a rescan button - when clicked the Mac will look for bootable devices again. The right arrow is a boot from selected device button.

If your Mac is spitting out the disc even while the boot manager is loaded, it's possible that you have a broken optical drive, or it could just be a dirty disc.

just tried a second set of disks and booting from my ipod that I have rigged to run os 10.4

no luck at all, seems like the optical drive then. Where can i buy one of these?
thanks for you help, I really appreciate it.
