iMac G5 won´t detect memory card reader

I have this cheap memory card reader and my iMac won´t detect it when I plug it in a usb plug. At least the photos which are Nikon NEF files do not appear and so I can´t transfer them.

I wonder what might be wrong; I, the reader, the Nikon software or the computer? :confused:
