Hey guys and gals

I have a 17" iMac G5 purchased in August 2005 that won't turn on. It doesn't fall under the computers listed for the Repair Extention Program... just outside though, of course.

Last night it started randomly shutting down, kind of like the Macbook problem (which my mom went through), and now it just won't turn on at all. When I hit the power button it makes a short whining type noise. Before it died I tried resetting the SMU and PRAM which obviously didn't help. Thinking back it's had a couple sleep issues, as well as problems powering my iPod Shuffle... it would dismount fairly often, or show warnings of Low Power Device (or something like that).

I think it's a power supply problem, but I'd really appreciate some other opinions before I spend $116 getting a replacement.

One thing is for sure, I'll be buying AppleCare next time.

Well, I didn't read your post very carefully, did I?!
Sorry, about that!
Sounds like your analysis is right, your power supply is shot.
