I recently picked up a 21.5" iMac and I love everything about it except for the glossy screen. For me, it's one of those things that I don't always notice until I do, and then it bugs me.
So, I decided to order a PhotoDon hood to see if that helped. The hood itself is actually made of nicer material than I expected. The instructions are a little vague and it took me a few tries to figure out the best way to install it. However once installed, it looks good and works fairly well.
As others have mentioned a lot of the glare comes from directly behind the operator, so a hood can't hide that. Still the hood does cut some of the glare from both sides and the top, and my head and body shields some of the other glare from behind.
Bottom line for me is that it has been an improvement. There is still a fair amount of glare, but for some reason with the hood it's more tolerable. For my use, it has been a worthwhile investment.
