Hello,
Before I ask my question, I want to make it clear that I am aware that the iMac is not like a regular PC tower desktop.
I have a 2011 21.5" iMac with an AMD 6770m 512 MB GPU. If I was able to get my hands on the 6970m 1GB, the top of the line GPU for iMacs for that model year, couldn't I just swap out my GPU with that one?
From looking at the teardown on iFixit, the GPU is not soldered or glued or anything, and simply comes off as it is attached with PCIe 16, not some fancy Apple connection. I am familiar with how these look, and they look like half laptop, half desktop shaped GPUs in the shape of a 90 degree angle. The drivers are built in to OSX.
I am trying to get better performance in games on Boot Camp.
Could this work?
Thanks!
