iMac graphics problem on boot

I am getting this graphics error when I boot my iMac. It is after the grey Apple screen - -you know when it goes blue then to the login screen.

It doesn't happen every time.

It also occurs on my MacBook Pro.

The iMac was purchased about a month ago and the MacBook Pro is also a couple of months old.

I have reset the PRAM.

Have you reseted SMC?

It's uncommon for two computers to have the exact same hardware problem and what your describing sounds like a hardware issue. Have you downloaded anything to tweek the fan settings or other SMC/PRAM settings or anything like that?

Was on the phone to Applecare for over an hour trying various things. It doesn't do it in safe boot mode or booting from the DVD.

I was instructed to reinstall OSX - all is good now.

Must have been software.

The MacBook Pro hasn't done it for a while so I will leave it alone. Must have been something I had on it.
