Hello,

I was going to get my hard drive replaced due to the recall...
But I wanted a bigger capacity hard drive than 1 tb. The Apple reseller wanted to charge me 180.00  for the installation of the hard drive then another 90.00 for data transfer if I gave them a different hard drive.

I have the late 2009 model i7 27' iMac and debating what to do.

Any Fusion Style drives on the market that I could use on this computer? or better off just buying a SSD and storing any files to an external for work.

Also worth just doing the installation myself with the hard drive? Just thinking the 180.00 is the cost of a decent hdd...

Thanks again,
cwo

You can get 1TB HDD's for a lot cheaper than $180. Here is one for half that.

Personally, I'd go with an SSD, iFixit.com has superb tutorials, photos, videos and step-by-step instructions on how to do it. You can get the kits from them, OWC and other places. You can get a 500GB SSD for under $400 now, so they're finally getting to a point where consumers can get more storage for their dollar.
