I came home last night, tired from work. It's almost the holidays and because of that, a lot of people called out and I was pulling long nights the past couple weeks or so.

As I stumble into my humble apartment, I take my coat off, unlace my dress shoes, and make my way to the bedroom to undress before figuring out dinner plans.

I turned the lights on, and there she was, my wife was laying down on the bed, dressed in her birthday suit... We made eye contact, and she smiled.

"What's the occasion?", I ask.

She didn't say a word, but she motioned over to the corner of the bedroom where the desk is that she usually studies at.

"Do well on your exam?"

"Mmmmhmmm. And thank you so much."

"What do you have to thank me for?"

"For purchasing the M4 iMac customized with thirty two gigabytes of random-access memory, five hundred and twelve gigabytes of storage, and the yellow color. Because of your brilliant decision I have been doing so well in school. I wouldn't have done better if you went the Mac Studio route with one of those silly Apple Studio Displays... only people without taste get those things. Now get over here and lay down!"

And that my friends, is the power of iMac.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. I'm just telling the folks here of a true story that happened to me that centers around an iMac in an iMac forum. Computers don't always need to be about specs or numbers, and posts here don't always need to be about tech issues. The iMac is above that.

She just knows your weak spot and is playing you. You're pretty transparent on your obsession with your iMac.

I wonder how you will be able to contain yourself if you got your hands on a brand new 20th Anniversary Mac when they first came out. I mean this machine is the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen. The Sound system with the separate subwoofer was out of this world. It had a TV Tuner, Recorder, Front Loading remote control CD Player, Leather pads for the keyboard, detachable trackpad, Pen and Pencil set with leather case for it, leather case for CDs... the build quality was unsurpassed by anyone at the time... you probably would never leave the house and just stare and touch it all day long. LOL

Dude, that's a dream. Precursor to the iMac for sure. Jobs came in and cleaned house, and I believe it was like $7,000.00 and hand delivered to folks with white glove service. He took the elements of it that were reasonable and took out the rest, but that is an example of a Mac, Rolls Royce edition!

You would have loved it. In my corporate days, we had a dedicated Mac Representative from MacWarehouse...they are no longer around... He called us and told us that Apple was planning on discounting these to under 2K....he held a few for us so that we could snatch it up before it was sold out. I got one. It's in Mint Perfect Condition. No Subwoofer Hum that plagued some of the models. I used this daily at home. Forgot to mention it had an FM tuner for radio also. Now I have it all wrapped up in the original box including the originals accessories and books that came with it. Old picture at the home office. SVS Recorder connected to it and a Newton with the Charging base and Geoport Modem. I took out the stuff a few years ago to see the book that came with it to take a picture. It's a huge book.

I remember that remote! I had a Quadra 630, many moons ago, and bought the add-on TV tuner for it; the tuner came with that exact same remote. (No FM radio support for me, I'm afraid.)

I was quite hooked right away. Thereafter, every single Mac I bought was augmented with some form of TV input option, either out of the box or by way of a secondary purchase. At least, until streaming became so ubiquitous as to render obsolete the last of my Hauppauge tuners.

I also remember happening upon a Macintosh TV in the store and realizing that it was basically the same machine as my Quadra, except that the MacTV was an all-in-one. I don't recall ever seeing the 20th Anniversary Mac in person, though.

I saw a Macintosh TV in Black at the store way back. Now I can't remember if it was Whole Earth Access or Computerware back in the Bay Area... but I almost bought the thing... The 20th, first time I heard of it was when Gil Amelio at the Developer Conference announced a winner from the drawing and the prize was a 20th Anniversary Mac. I can't remember who won, but the dude was super excited..thats when I looked it up with my Mac sales rep.
