Core Duo and Core 2 Duo are socket compatible. Has anyone done this yet? I'm not interested at all right yet, but later next year I will be once leopard comes public. Click to expand... Yes people have done it. Newer versions of OS X should identify the processor correctly. http://guides.macrumors.com/Merom

The C2D will probably set you back $300 or so (probably much less in the future though), and you end up with a machine that has no warranty.

I'm going to hold out until next year though at least. Socket M Merom chips will be cheaper. I won't have to worry about my warranty either when it expires.
