iMac keeps freezing and crashing

I have an 8 year old 24" iMac with 8gb ram and 1tb sta hard drive.
When processing photos, my iMac will eventually freeze up. It is hot to the touch also.
Can it be saved or is it time for a new iMac to process my images?

What OS X version are you running on it? When did the iMac start having the issues?

version 10.10.3
My iMac has always run hot, but since Friday I have been dealing with the freezing.

A couple of things to try:

• Repair Permissions in Disk Utility and reboot.
• Reset PRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063
• Drag your user account Library/Caches to the trash and reboot.
