imac keeps shutting down

I recently added ramm to my daughters imac and now the fan(s) won't stop unless its in sleep mode and if we pull any of the usb's it shuts down. To get it to start I have to pull the power cord for a few seconds and then its ok (except for the fan) Anybody know what I broke?

Did you seat the RAM properly? Did you replace all the RAM or add to what Apple provided? Sounds like bad RAM! Who did you buy it from? Did it come with a warranty?

Try taking out the added RAM and try to boot it with just the original RAM. Do a process of elimination.

Let us know what happens.

Which iMac are you using?
