iMac Late 2009 upgrade questions

I currently have a late 2009 21.5" iMac and was now planning to up my RAM to 8GB and also add an external monitor, since i have to do coding for my school. My questions are:
1) Whats the best brand to buy 1066Mhz DDR3 SDRAM, and how much should i buy? Should i get 2x2GB or just get 2x4GB. Looks like i can go up to 4x4GB correct and it would make sense to get 2x2GB right?
2) I am also looking at a 21.5" monitor and will just connect it via MDP to DVI adapter. I dont need that dual link adapter as long as my resolution is less than 1920x1080 correct? Do i need to look for anything else while i select my monitor?

If you are going to max out the memory slots, don't play smart like I did thinking 1333 memory units are fine with the late 2009 model. They were fine, just not when you put in all four of them, the computer end up beeping and won't start. Any combination with at least one 1066 unit worked flawlessly.

Now whether I could do something useful with that 16GB of memory is a real question...
