I have a late 2012 iMac 21.5 emc 2544 with an internal hard drive problem. I have tried everything I can find to fix except genius bar and a new Apple hard drive. It will boot from an external drive if I download Lion from a restore. This model doesn't have the hard drive heat sensor so the fans do not scream with a none Apple hard drive. I replaced the internal hard drive cable with a new Apple one for my model without a change. I just have ran out of idea's and don't want to think the internal hard drive port just failed in less then 2 years and for once no Apple Care. Any help or idea's would be appreciated ,except a course in paragraph structure. Jimi your G.F. put's Linda L. to shame.

Hi All,
I searched but couldn't find anything like this anywhere ,sorry it's not short and sweet. Have a 2 year old iMac 21.5 2012 with the 2.7 GHz. .22 nm intel.Went to start Sunday past and get the flashing folder, tried it all nothing worked.Took out the factory 1 TB Samsung put it on another Mac External and checked it and it was messed up tried to repair which failed so I erased and reformatted it and put it back in the iMac tried to load Lion, NO then Snow Leopard Retail No, so I left it in.Then I plugged in a USB External rehooked up router and restarted with options and bang the external drive (a new 250 crucial SSD.) shows up,I download the OS-x Lion and after 40 minutes its all set and boots to the Drive. So I decide to replace the 1 TB in the iMac with the SSD. NO Go would not boot! So now with the SSD still in I'm Downloading Lion Just like the SSD only to the original 1 TB. Drive. I can't figure why nothing will work inside but it all works external, one more thing when I had the 1st. Drive up and running external did a AHT and everything Passed, yet no boot oh and I couldn't do command -option-p-r for the second bong with the SSD but it did it with the failed 1 TB. inside and the SSD external with OS-X on it/ Sorry to Drag this out but it's Just the facts. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.failed Drive cable inside ,well then it would not bong, only thing left I can thing of is maybe Coin Cell Battery? But I don't know if its like Windows that you have to have Power or lose Board Updates if you take out battery without any other power to board?? Any help would be greatly appreciated ,since I'm winning Saturdays Powerball 130 million cash!

Considering your new found wealth, simply take it to an AASP and ask them to sort it out. Either that or buy yourself a maxed out Mac Pro.:)
